Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about GG.email

General

What is GG.email?

GG.email is an email service for gamers. You sign in with Steam or Discord, and every gaming account you link gets its own address, such as gamername.steam@gg.email. All of your addresses deliver to one inbox, so guildmates, teammates and friends can reach you by your gamertag without knowing your personal email.

Is GG.email really free?

Yes. The Free plan costs nothing and includes 250 MB of storage, 14 days of mail history, an address for every platform you link, and sending to other GG.email addresses. There are no ads. Pro costs $5 a month, plus tax where it applies, and adds 10 GB of storage, a year of mail history, sending to any email address and your own name@gg.email. Pro subscriptions are what pay for the Free plan.

Can anyone sign up?

Not yet. GG.email is invite-only for now, and only invited Steam and Discord accounts can sign in. Open sign-up comes later. You must be 18 or older to use GG.email.

Do I need to create a password?

No. You sign in with your Steam or Discord account, so there's no separate GG.email password to create or remember.

Can I use GG.email without connecting a gaming account?

No. You sign in with a Steam or Discord account, and your addresses come from the gaming accounts you link. That's how we verify that an address really belongs to you.

Supported Platforms

Which gaming platforms does GG.email support?

You can sign in with:

  • Steam (your custom URL name and your SteamID64)
  • Discord

After signing in, you can also link:

  • Twitch (as .twitch or .ttv)
  • Battle.net (your BattleTag, plus your World of Warcraft characters)
  • Bungie.net
  • Epic Games
  • Lichess
Can I connect multiple accounts from the same platform?

Yes. You can link more than one account from the same platform, for example two Steam accounts, and each one adds its addresses. Linking a Battle.net account also gives an address for each of your World of Warcraft characters.

Will you support [my favorite platform]?

We can only add platforms that let us verify who you are. Let us know which ones you'd like to see.

Addresses

How do my addresses work?

Each gaming account you link gives you an address like username.steam@gg.email. Mail to any of them arrives in your one inbox, and you can send from any of them, so you can use the right identity for each conversation.

How many addresses can I have?

As many as your linked accounts give you, on every plan. There is no limit.

Can I choose my own address?

Not freely. Each address uses your name on the platform it comes from. For example, if your Steam custom URL is progamer, you get progamer.steam@gg.email. Pro subscribers can also claim one address without a platform, such as progamer@gg.email, if it matches the name of one of their linked accounts. See Your Own Name.

Can someone else have the same address as me?

Sometimes. Addresses aren't first-come, first-served. Some platform names aren't unique, so two players can end up with the same address, and mail to it then goes to both of them. Addresses marked Permanent or Username under Platforms in your profile settings can only be yours. See Shared Addresses.

Storage & Limits

How much storage do I get?

Storage depends on your plan:

  • Free: 250 MB
  • Pro: 10 GB, and you can add 10 GB blocks for $1 a month each

Link both a Steam and a Discord account and you get an extra 250 MB on either plan, which you keep once you've earned it.

How long is my mail kept?

Free keeps mail for 14 days and Pro for 1 year. Older mail is removed automatically. When you upgrade to Pro, the year applies to mail that arrives after you upgrade.

What happens when I reach my storage limit?

New mail is refused, and the sender is told it couldn't be delivered. Delete emails you don't need, or upgrade to Pro for more storage.

Are attachments supported?

Not yet, on any plan. When an email arrives with attachments, they are removed, the message itself is delivered, and you'll see a note that attachments were removed. You can't add attachments to the mail you send.

Is there a limit on sending emails?

Yes. Free and Pro both have per-minute and daily sending limits to prevent abuse, and Pro's are higher. Free sends only to GG.email addresses. Spam and abuse can get an account suspended.

Account Management

How do I upgrade my account?

In your inbox, open your profile settings and go to Subscription. Pro is $5 a month, plus tax where it applies. You can add extra storage there too. If you subscribe early, you keep your price.

Can I downgrade back to free?

Yes, at any time, with no lock-in. Use Manage billing under Subscription to cancel. When Pro ends, you keep Pro features for a 14-day grace period. After that, Free limits apply:

  • Your own name@gg.email is released
  • You can send only to GG.email addresses, and receive only from senders Free accounts accept
  • Mail older than 14 days is removed
  • While you're over 250 MB of storage, new mail is refused until you're back under
How do I delete my account?

Open your profile settings, go to Subscription, and click Delete account under Danger zone. Deletion is permanent, so download a copy of your data from your profile settings first if you want to keep it.

Technical

Is GG.email secure?

There are no GG.email passwords to leak: you sign in through Steam or Discord. Incoming mail is checked with SPF, DKIM and DMARC, and Free accounts only accept mail from senders that pass those checks. GG.email runs on Cloudflare, and your data is encrypted at rest and in transit. See our Security & Privacy page for details.

What email standards does GG.email support?

GG.email sends and receives standard internet email, in HTML or plain text. Incoming mail is checked with SPF, DKIM and DMARC.

Troubleshooting

I'm not receiving emails. What's wrong?

Check these common issues:

  • Check that your storage isn't full
  • Check that the sender used your address exactly as it appears under Platforms in your profile settings
  • On Free, check that the sender is someone Free accounts can receive from (see Receiving Emails)
  • Look in Spam and Trash
  • Check status.gg.email for service issues
  • Ask the sender whether they got a message saying it couldn't be delivered
I can't send emails. What should I do?

Common causes:

  • On Free, you can send only to GG.email addresses
  • You may have reached your plan's sending limits. Wait a while and try again
  • The recipient address may be mistyped
  • Your account may be suspended
  • Your internet connection may have dropped
I forgot which gaming account I used to sign up.

Only Steam and Discord can sign you in, so try the Steam or Discord account you were invited with. Once you're in, your linked accounts and addresses are listed under Platforms in your profile settings.
